John Randle
John
Randle has played golf since he was 10 years old, a period of over
30 years (just barely!). He played his junior golf at Uplands Golf
Club in Victoria where he was a three time Junior Club Champion.
After high school, John played four years of collegiate golf at
the University of Washington in Seattle and graduated in 1989 with
a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology.
After
university, John immediately turned pro and began a career as a
Tour Professional. Over the next 8 years he played eight seasons
on the Canadian Tour, two seasons on the South African PGA Tour
and competed on several U.S. Mini Tours.
In
1998, John turned his focus to helping people learn the game and
quickly became a very popular instructor. He started his teaching
career at Valley Golf Centre in Victoria. After two years there,
he took a position at Gorge Vale GC working in the pro shop and
teaching. Three years of splitting his time made it clear to John
that he would have to be a full time teacher to really hone his
craft.
John
moved back to the Valley Golf Centre in late 2001 to launch the
Victoria Academy of Golf. After 18 months there, including winning
the 2002 BC PGA Teacher of the Year, John was recruited to move
to Olympic View in Victoria to help launch the GBC Golf Academy.
In
the spring of 2004, John was appointed Director of Instruction,
the position he holds today.
John's
Teaching Philosophy
John recognizes each golfer is different. Each of the students at
his golf schools has unique goals for their golf games; distinct
body types and preferred learning styles.
John’s teaching philosophy is based on the fact there are
black and white requirements for how a golf club needs to be used
to create a good golf shot. He feels all golfers can improve quickly
when they understand the key concepts of the golf swing and apply
them to their particular set of circumstances.
It is John’s opinion that most golfers do not fully understand
how the golf club needs to be swung through impact to hit good shots
and this results in their inability to improve. He has found, once
a student understands how the club should be used, he or she improves
very quickly.
